Meet the 2010/11 Surrey-Guildford United head coaches:
Spiro PegiosSpiro has been a long-standing metro coach at Surrey United and Surrey-Guildford United. He was the head coach of the 2008 U16 National Championship team that was triumphant in Nova Scotia. Spiro has an extensive track record of developing players that have moved into the Provincial and National team programs as well as Whitecaps FC full-time Residency program.
Sipho SibiyaSipho is the newly appointed technical director of Guildford AC after spending many successful years in Prince George running their DDC and youth and senior soccer programs. He also had a great playing career with the Vancouver 86ers, Edmonton Drillers and Canadian National beach soccer team.
Derek WicklundDerek has had a lot of success as a coach of Surrey United over the last 6 years. Most notably he headed the very talented and successful 1990-born girls metro group which produced players such as April Coffin (SFU Varsity stand-out) and Julie Armstrong (University of Portland and Whitecaps Women’s team player)
Jeff ClarkeAfter a long professional playing career, which included over 75 appearances for the Canadian National Team and multiple club championships with the Whitecaps FC and St. Patrick’s Athletic in Ireland’s Premier League, Jeff has dedicated himself to the grassroots of Surrey soccer. As the technical director of Surrey United he will also be the co-lead of the Surrey-Guildford United metro program. Jeff is currently working toward his A-license National Certification.
Kim McMullenIn 2009 Kim played for the Whitecaps FC Women's team after a successful year before with the Hampton Roads team in the W-League. She was a stand-out at Eastern Washington University and after graduation in 2008 she was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame for her soccer achievements. Kim now plays for the Surrey United Women's Premier Team and is also a top staff coach with the Surrey United Development Programs.
Scott HyamsScott has had much success as a coach in the local soccer scene. As a past head coach of District Cup and Summer Games championship teams Scott has his sights set on leading the U14A boys to a provincial cup next season. He also heads the mini program at Guildford AC
Ricardo VieiraRicardo has been involved in soccer for his whole life; first as a player at the collegiate/semi-pro level in his home country, Brazil and then coaching here in Canada at the club level shortly after his move to BC in 2000. He has a long experience with the '98 age group, most recently he was the Head Coach of Port Coquitlam FC's top '98 team, which he coached to a North Fraser Cup Championship in 2009 Ricardo holds a B-Provincial license and is currently working towards his B-National certification.
Tony FranciscoAnother new-comer to the staff, Tony Francisco comes to SGU as one of the most successful and experienced coaches around the soccer community. After spending 3 years on the coaching staff of the Whitecaps Men’s team (2002-2004) Tony has led metro teams to Coastal Cup finals and Y-League teams to National Championships.
Frank McCannFrank is one of the most recognizable coaches in Surrey soccer. Over the years as a metro coach he has developed many players for higher levels, including Provincial teams and Prospects programs. He was also the head coach of the 2007 U14 Provincial Cup championship boys team from Surrey United.
Jay RossWith over 10 years of metro coaching experience Jay will lead our U18A metro team for the upcoming season. His wealth of experience will be extremely beneficial to the entire U18 age-group.
