Labour Day Tournament Wrap-up

Both the U14A and U14B SGU boys teams won their respective divisions at the Coquitlam/Metro-Ford Labour Day Tournament. The U14A team, coached by Jim McKay, went 4-0 in round robin play and won the final against Coquitlam/Metro-Ford Barca in dramatic fashion, 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out. Goalkeeper Lucas Johnson made two big saves in the shoot-out to secure the victory.

The U14B team, coached by Scott Hyams, beat Dunbar 3-1 in the final game of the tournament. The game was closely contested and it was Matteo Bordignon who scored the winning goal with 15 mins to go, his second of the game. Eric de Graaf scored a penalty to seal the 3-1 win.

The U16 boys won the Langley Labour day tournament. The team was a combination of players from the U16 A and B teams and the boys came together on the field going 4-1 overall.

Congratulations to all the teams on their terrific showings over the Labour Day weekend tournaments.

Pre-season training camp in Kirkland

Three of Surrey-Guildford United's metro teams just completed a very successful pre-season training trip down in Kirkland, Wa. The U15 and U16 girls and the U18 boys travelled down to Kirkland at the end of August for the training camp which included some team training sessions and meetings, 2 games each against Crossfire Premier Soccer Club's top academy teams and also all the players got to see the Seattle Sounders FC play in their inaugural season against Toronto FC. All 3 teams had exceptional performances in their games against Crossfire academy teams who are top ranked in their US Academy Leagues.

Surrey-Guildford United would like to thank all of the players, coaches and parents who made efforts in making this pre-season trip a success. A special thank you must go to Julia Marcoux who did all of the group hotel and meal bookings.
